What people contribute most to the stock market? What are the names of the poeple who contribute the most money in the whole stock market? There has got to be a limited number of individual people that own X percent of stock in the ENTIRE market...who are these people and how much percent of the market do they own? I ask this because someone told me that Bush along with 3 other people own the majority/most percentage of the enitre stock market. Is it true or is this person completely crazy...it seems pretty possible to me but that is why i ask on yahoo.
How do you sell stocks on the stock market? If you want to sell a stock on the market do you have to set an ask price and have someones bid price match your ask price in order for it to sell or is there a way for you to sell the stock at anytime incase you want to get rid of the stocks quickly without doing the bid ask process?
How often does a correction in the stock market turn into a full-blown recession? I'm interested in "leveraged indexes" (ex., SSO) that imitate the general movement of the stock market with increased power. However, if the market plummets, I'm twice as in trouble as I'd normally be. I know that predicting the market is a difficult if not impossible task, but are there any early "warning signs" to warn me of an upcoming recession? Historically, how many times have corrections (10% drop in the market) turned into a true, full-blown recession (20% drop or more in the market)? Thanks for your help!
How about a poll to predict the stock market? How about a poll to predict the stock market? If these pollsters think they're so smart that they can predict the outcome of the presidential election weeks in advance, why don't they do something useful and have a poll to predict the stock market or something? I'd be curious to know what the stocks will be weeks in advance.

How much can one beat the stock market by if they work hard? I JUST asked this same question today. I think one of the people who answered told me that a wealthy investor will try to beat the stock market by three to five percent, so thats, over the course of the last 30 years, 10 to 12 percent. Is it possible to get more if I study stocks for a living, and am good at it????? What is the deviation from the figure i've just given for proffessional investors???
How far ahead of the economy is the stock market? I've heard the stock market is an indicator of future economics. We've seen a little improvement in the market recently, indicating economic recovery, but when? Also, why does the stock market say it likes Hillary Clinton as VP? Basically, I'm interested what messages the stock market sends in general.
How do I make the stock market sound fun? I'm in high school, and there is an online game whereby you can trade stocks with virtual money. We are trying to get more members, but unfortunately it's moving very slowly. Whenever I say the word "stock-market", people are already turned off by that. What are ways to present the stock market in an interesting way? I also can't charge money for the game.
Is the stock market expected to drop significantly in the next six months? My financial advisor advised me to move more of my investments into the bond market. He said that equities have been at all time highs, and the market is expected to correct itself sometimes between summer and this winter. What happens to the stock market when median home prices go down? What happens when new construction permits decrease? This is of course referring to residential real estate, but what about commercial real estate? Thank you very much for your input.
How do I get involved in the stock market? I want to invest but i dont know how much when & where... Basically, I have little knowledge of how the stock market works, and I just want to get started. What I really want to know is how stocks and the stock market works, how to play the market - things like that. In fact, if there's recommended reading on the subject for beginners, that'd be great too. Any other advice about particular stocks, or even advice about other preferable investment options, would also be greatly appreciated.
Channel stock market capital gains through my incorporated business? Hello, I am the CEO of a small web design company. I'm also heavily invested in the stock market. I'm wondering if it is possible to channel my capital gains that I make through the stock market through my small, incorporated S Corporation, to save on taxes. Currently, short term capital gains in the stock market are upwards of 35-40 % for larger gains. Thats just way too much to be giving to the government. Thanks if anyone can help.
How does the housing market affect the stock market so much? I heard that the housing market being low in sales and with the forclousure market crashing, it is affecting investors so much that they are moving money out of equities (stocks) and investing more in safer investments. Thats why the stock market has been down so much in the past week. How does this happen? I was reading about it, but I didn't really understand. Are investors pulling out their stocks from big lenders? How exactly does it affect the stock market? I need help understanding it in normal terms that make sense. Please advise, thank you!!
Was the American stock market plunge reason to be nervous or just a buying opportunity? One of the reasons I asked was also because I'm still a rookie at investing and wanted to hear some opinions. I'm as green as can be when it comes to stock market investing, and I understand people lost lots of money, but is the drop really a reason to be nervous? I understand it's a sign there might be a change in the lending market, but is this a reason to be nervous about investing in the stock market or to start trading all your stocks? I mean it's not like the America is an unstable country. It's no reason to start pulling all of your money out of the stock market, right? This is a proven market that should stabilize itself in a while, no? Is this just an opportunity to buy cheap stocks? Chime in on the stock market plunge?

What makes the stock market different than gambling? I can make educated guesses and research my horses at the race track, and you can get 20 bucks back from only investing 1 dollar, easily. You'll be hard pressed to get that return in 1 day at the stock market. And who want's to gamble in the long term? You invest $10,000 only to have the broker tell you that you MIGHT get a good return? Find me a broker who will tell you NOT to buy stock and I'll give you a $100.
What is a good argumentative statement that incorporates the stock market and economic crisis? The economic crisis deals with the credit crisis, bailouts, stock market crash, unemployment rate, value of the dollar etc.. I have to write an argumentative paper about the stock market, but the concept of stocks and bonds are confusing to me, despite doing extensive research. how earnings in the stock market get taxed? does income made in the stock market get taxed the same as the income I make at work? I know about the long term capital gains stuff but what else. Does it matter what tax bracket I'm in as to how much it gets taxed? Do I have to pay state tax, social security etc?? Say I Make 100 dollars in the stock market and I was in a 25% tax bracket and took out the hundred I made before a year what would I be left with? so wait if I buy 1000 dollars worth of stock and the price of the stock increases to give me 1200 dollars worth of stock at the end of the year they tax it even if my money's still invested in the stock? How do they differentiate this profit between a short term and long term gain then? "Dividends are tax at your normal tax bracket, except for qualified dividends, which are taxed at maximum of 15% (5% for those in 10% or 15% bracket), and you have to pay federal and state tax, but not social security or medicare tax." so if I made 100 dollars in the stock market in over a year I would get taxed 15% + federal tax of 25% + state tax? Is that right? that ends up being over 40% of the income going to taxes.
What is the best way to jump into the stock market? I have always been interested in the stock market but I have never really understood it completly. I understand many of the basic concepts of trading and seling. What would you recommend to someone who wants to begin using the stock market and buying stock?
How will the global stock market crisis affect us all and is there a solution? I live on the poor side of the rich-poor divide and am starting to fret about the global stock market crisis, which seems to be on a never-ending slippery slide. I live with my parents who have quite a bit of debt and aren't high-earners, I think my dad owns a few shares in the company he works for, but not much. How is all of this going to affect the rich and poor classes and what would be a solution in trying to stabalise the slump? How would a solution affect the rich and poor classes? If a solution is not found, what will happen?
What happened in the stock market today? Today, January 22, 2008 all the news channels were focusing on the stock market a huge risk of recession. They also said that the federal government reduced interest rates. I only saw bits and pieces of the news report. What exactly happened? What was the scare? What did the government do?

What are peoples' outlook for the stock market for the first half of this year? What do people think the stock market is going to do for the next few months? Does anyone think that the stock market is a little bit overvalued right now? Does anyone think that the stock market could come down a few percent or so, in the next few months? Or do people think that it will continue to grow like it did in 2006?
How many points did the stock market lose in the crash of 1929? Also, how much wealth was lost in terms of money during the crash? Can anyone explain what the overvaluation of stocks is? The stock market is very confusing to me, but I think it's wise to invest. Any help would be great. I'm getting conflicting information. Online, I read that the 16 billion dollars were lost, but what you said contradicts this. I also read that more than 500 points were lost.
Why does the stock market historically perform better during Democratic administrations? See links below for evidence demonstrating that the stock market performs better during Democratic administrations than Republican administrations. http://www.frbsf.org/images/pdfcharts/el98-19a.pdf http://www.frbsf.org/images/pdfcharts/el98-19a.pdf dpj5: Let's see if what you're saying is true: As I look over the data, I see that the two of the three periods with the biggest gains (33-36, 97-01, and 49-52) involved Democratic Congressional majorities as well. The data do not support your claim. Please try again. John--Excellent points, but they also illustrate that the stereotype that Democrats favor regulation is not always true.
What are the greater implications of all the stock market concerns? I know very little about economics, the way the stock market works, the greater impact it has on the economy as a whole, etc. I know enough to know that all the things happening now are not good. This may be a silly question, but why are the dropping numbers so problematic? What happens when the stock market drops as low as it has been? How will this impact the economy, and individuals? This sounds like an essay question, and I'm not trying to cheat on homework anything. I'm really just curious, because I don't know and I would like to. Thanks!
Why are people in the stock market running around so much? I always see footage of the stock market and people are running around like crazy and yelling over each other. It seems so chaotic. I know nothing about the stock market or how it works. I know the basics but that's it. I am just curious. Hopefully someone can give me a good answer and not a smart ass comment or remark. Thanks.
Around when will the stock market rebound into a primary bull market? I've heard a lot of people say that the economy will start to recover in the second half of 2009. I've also heard that the stock market is 6 to 9 months ahead of the economy. Does that mean that the stock market will turn bullish earlier than mid 2009, or is that when the stock market will bottom out?

I don't understand this. Why is this happening. I'm really scared now because I'm afraid America might be heading into a depression.
How does the stock market create social production or wealth? It seems the stock market adds little to society as a whole but instead just creates individual wealth. I'm all for individual wealth and all; but only if it also raises all boats. What social wealth is created by the stock market? Listen all. I am all for people making money. I am against people inventing money.
How do people make a living in the stock market? I know people who don't work and only invest in the stock market. They make more than enough to pay their bills and stash a good amount away? Is the recent stock market climb due to Bush and his dilligent economic policies? The stock market has been going up due to Bushs policies. Remember when Democrats say "Obamas only been in office for 5 weeks?" Well according to their logic thats not enough time to do anything wrong, therefore whatever Bush did in his final days was right, and we are seeing the end to Clintons recession finally. Its just too bad Obama is trying to take credit for it, fact.

What type of probability distribution does the stock market follow? I am trying to figure this one out...it's not normal distribution since all values should gravitate around the mean..which is not the case in the stock market(and related markets). I tried to approximate as well the CDF of Levy distribution...and I might be doing something wrong - but I am getting infinity there... One thing is clear though: the probability is continuous. thanks...
What can you tell me about the stock market? Anything I might need to know, with a source if possible. Any ideas on where the stock market is going from here? I've recently gotten into trading options, but I've also noticed that pretty much every stock I look at has gone up since March, and my RSI isn't helping me much. It basically has all the stocks at 50% right now, so there is no indication whatsoever of which way the market will go from here. Any ideas?
How to learn the stock market/economy from the start.? What is the best way that you would recommend learning the ins and outs of the stock market and the economy. Yes, I understand that those are two distinct concepts in and of themselves, but they certainly are related. I don't want to wait a year or so before I start getting to it in classes. How can I start from very simple, elementary styled learning, and get to rigorous Warren Buffet type analysis? Thanks
What were three influential Canadians that were involved with the 1929 stock market crash? I have a culminating assignment to do on the 1929 stock market crash. We need to find three people (with varying opinions and points of view) in order to explain the chronology stock market crash. If anyone could help me think of any people (political candidates, activists, etc.) that were very influential to the stock market crash, that would be great!! Ps: They should be Canadian :)
What is the stock market trying to tell Obama? See, the stock market is ALWAYS a leading indicator of things to come. You should all know by now that it bounced from Mar 9th lows on the assumption that the worst was over and Obama putting trillions into economy would stave off another leg down in the recession. NOW, what is this market saying now that it is slowly going back down? Why would Obama throw more money at it? Why would he dare introduce more legislation that is bad for economy and business in general? What is Obama trying to accomplish? And does the market heading back down tell him that his agenda is working?

Stock Market?? I am doing a school project and I have to buy stock in three corporations. By the end of the project, I could have made three trades total. I was going to invest in Google, IKON and Jackson Hewitt. The ones I thought I might trade for are Wachovia, Microsoft, American Eagle, Johnson and Johnson, and Aeropostale. However, because Microsoft decided not to buy Yahoo, it is predicted their stock will go up. I was thinking of using Microsoft instead of Google, and I want to trade before the market opens tomorrow. I have 10,000 to invest (not for real..we just have to track what we would have if we did actually invest in this). Which of the above stocks do you think I should do? In response to raysor: I know it is a school project. Did you ever think maybe I want to learn about the stock market and how it works? Did you ever think the reason I chose to do this project was because I am interested in the stock market? Did you ever think that I might have asked this question in this category because I thought these people would know best? Hmmm..I think not. Maybe next time I ask a question, rather than wasting my time giving me an answer that basically insults me, just don't answer, okay? Thank you and have a nice day.

How does the stock market work? I look at the little graphs of what different stocks are worth, and it looks like a monkey drew them. Who actually sits there and counts buyers and sellers and determines stock prices? And if the stock market is the indicator of the economy's well-being, then how can it be closed on weekends!? If it can be turned on and off at will, does that make it a man-made construct? And if so, why does it follow natural laws of supply and demand?

The way a lot of people paint it, the stock market was just a safe, ol' bird you could get rich on if you stuck your money in there for 40 years. I have only a 5 year history learning about and investing in stocks, but feel like its every day a roller coaster. What was it like in say the 60's, 70's, 80's etc. or before if you were around then?
