what is the best way to get into niche marketing and make a profit?

I have an idea for a website but I don't really know anything about making a website, how to get traffic to it or anything like that. I think that my idea would be considered a niche but just like with the website I know even less about what to do with a niche but I know the two go together. Can someone give me some advise or point me to a GREAT book on the subjects?
