Is there a Java applet for this?

1. I'm assuming you mean only exchange-traded stocks (not over-the-counter, pink sheets, etc.) and by America you mean the United States. There are probably tens of thousands of stocks, and I don't know of any one list. However, each stock exchange's website has a list of all of their stocks. Here is a list of U.S. stock exchanges:
* Archipelago Exchange, merged with NYSE
* Arizona Stock Exchange, closed down
* American Stock Exchange (AMEX)
* Boston Stock Exchange
* Chicago Stock Exchange
* HedgeSteet
* NASDAQ
* National Stock Exchange (formerly the Cincinnati Stock Exchange)
* New York Board of Trade
* New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), merged with Archipelago Holdings
* Pacific Exchange (PCX), taken over by Archipelago Holdings
* Philadelphia Stock Exchange (PHLX)
* Rana stock exchange

Most brokerages will only let you buy stocks from the NYSE, NASDAQ, and usually the AMEX, so here are links to a list of stocks on each of those exchanges (note that listed stocks can be foreign, but they are still American traded).
