1. yahoo finance may be a good place. You can look up the share price in almost real time (15 min lag)

2. If your shares are in demat format, you probably don't need to worry, as the dividends will automatically be credited to your account. Also if you are purchasing the stocks through an online trading account, you probably have a portfolio performance chart which gives you the return (profit /loss) of each stock and your combined investment in real time, both in currency terms and in percentage terms.

3. You don't need to worry much about monitoring the shares you bought. you can do that by consistently receiving the annual reports and accounts of the company in which you've invested, to ensure that dividends have been declared for a particular accounting period. If dividends have been declared, contact your stockbroker, who will collect your dividend from your company's registrar. Nowadays, an advanced method of dividend protection have been devised through the registration of shares with the Central Securities Clearing System (CSCS). Furthermore, always watch the business news and always read financial newspapers for more information.

4. If you live outside Nigeria, but have investments there, you really must have your head examined. It is the conning capital of the world, bar none.

There are plenty of mutual funds investing in Africa and other such God forsaken places, with professionals looking after them. Surely that is the wise choice.

Of course, I am not saying that Nigerian standards of honesty in business are not equal to those of Switzerland. That would not be allowed by the police for political correctness. Freedom of speech now only goes as far as saying "good morning".

5. always see index & current stock price & analyse it on the basic of technical analysis.
