How is debt of a company listed on stock exchange? what does it mean?

I noticed that one of the companies has its debt listed on stock exchange and is equity is privately owned by its parent. How does this work?

1. what do you mean?

the company does a debt issuance, and applies for a ticker on an exchange, which makes the offering more liquid, and may decrease the cost of the debt to some degree. this is pretty common.

ones that come to mind:
PJE - Ford
AKF - Ambac
INZ - ING Groep
etc, etc, etc.
