1. I do not speak from personal experience on this. But, studies indicate that most day traders who trade using their own money end up losing money.
If day trading is part of some one's job trading with the firm's capital, then that is different. During some years, the firm makes money and the day trader gets his bonus. During other years, the firm loses money from proprietary trading.
2. I've daytraded off and on. And honestly, you lose just as much as you win. It's not easy, lots os stress, and big capital on the line trying to hit a quick trade.
3. Day trading is a business, like any other. The most important issue is discipline, and that is what most home traders do not have. In a firm, you have a boss that keeps you from betting too much on a single trade or allowing your losses to run to far (a few big blowups notwithstanding). Its easy to make a little money most days, its the big losses that get most people. Good money management is 80% of the difference between profit and loss.
