pattern day trading rule?

I am leaning about stocks and am a little unclear about the day trader rule. For example, if I buy 100 shares of ABC and the same day I sell them 100 shares that is consider to be two of my three allowed day trades or is that consider one? Do they count the buy as one and the sell as one? I have see some conflicting info about this and want to be clear of it.

Public Comments

1. Only count the sell trade. So that's ONE day trade.

2. The number of day trades is based on 'Round Turns', not just # of sells or buys. For example - if you buy 100 shares of xyz in the morning and then sell 100 in the afternoon it is 1 day trade. But also if you buy 100 in the morning and sell 50 at 2pm and another 50 at 3pm - that is just one round turn and therefore one day trade - not 2. You have simply flattened your initial position which is a round turn (or round trip).

Good luck and hope this helps
