What are the best Canadian stock brokers?
I would like to know what brokers offer the best commission rates. I do not want to pay annual or monthly fees. Also, I do not want to pay any inactivity fees of that sort. Do all stock brokers require you to have a minimum amount of money when starting the account? What do you guys think of Questrade? Or even Scotia iTrade?

2. Hi there,
I have used both Questrade and Scotia iTrade. Which one to use will depend on how much capital you have to invest with and how frequent you trade.
Here's my analysis of both:
Questrade
Pros
- Cheap if you do not trade many stocks or have a large amount of capital to invest with ($0.01 a share with a minimum of $5 to a maximum of $10)
- Online Trading Academy will rebate you 10% a trade if you take a class with them (until your full tuition is paid)
Cons
- Customer service is decent, but not the best in my opinion
- Does not provide any analyst reports
Scotia iTrade
Pros
- Great customer service
- Analyst reports
- Provides 100 free trades if you have more than $25,000 to open your account with
- $10 a trade flat if you have more than $50,000 in combined assets or trade between 30 - 149 times a quarter (3 months)
Cons
- Can be expensive if you do not have more than $50,000 or do not trade frequently ($20 a trade)
That's about it, so your choice will depend on how much you have to invest with and how frequent you trade. The analyst reports in my opinion are just a bonus, so they are not worth the premium for $20/trade if you do not reach the cheaper tiers.
I run a finance/investments blog at http://www.voindustriesblog.com. It's only about two months old so there's not much on it, but I do try to post at least once a day. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? If you have any questions, feel free to comment on it and I'd be glad to help you out on any other questions you may have, or if you want more details on discount brokerage firms.
Good luck!
3. CPT how is the Questrade classes?
As for the question, I think its been answered. It really depends on you. Personally I use both. Any long term trades I use the big bank. It more expensive but if your planning to hold long term it really isn't bad.
I also use Questrade but only for short term trades. If you don't have a lot of money and plan to trade lots Questrade the way to go. I really try too hold off on using my Questrade account though.. Its platform is HORRIBLE.
