1. constant ups and downs. its never stable

2. If you do not know what you are doing then you are simply gambling and the risk is that you could very easily lose all of your money. If you really have no idea what you are doing, it is even possible that you lose more money than you actually have.

If you are interested in learning more about how the market works and how to invest, there are many great sites out there that offer free education. I'd start with http://www.fool.com and http://finance.yahoo.com.

If you don't want to invest yourself, find a qualified financial planner because this is what they do for a living. Edward Jones is a great place to start.

3. High risk. The answer from "Joe" explains it pretty well. After many years in the market, I am looking to finally just find an alternative investment vehicle. If you are young, you might consider options trading which is risky as well. The small investor is being pushed out of the market. Very sad; but, I am afraid it is so.

4. you may never get your money back.
Buying a stock is like buying property: it might be worth either more or less later on.

In contrast to stocks, a bond is a promise to pay you a certain amount on a certain future date. Investing in bonds is more safe (you get the money so long as whoever sold the bond can pay it) and usually has a lower return.

5. Its not for small investor being honest you should be careful and constant ups and downs make trouble for you
