What are stock quotes and how do they work?
I've seen many tables of 'stock quotes', and I guessed they were something to evaluate an item's worth from, comparing to others.. maybe companies.. or...
Well, I've never really guessed it out correctly.
Could anyone tell me what they are exactly, and what the names and numbers on the tables mean?

1. It is the price of various companies stock shares. The letters are usually the stock symbol, instead of the name of the company a 1-5 letter symbol is used. For instance, Apple is AAPL, AT&T is just T and so on. Stocks go up and down in price, in a typical listing you will see the closing price (or current price if it is online), how much it went up or down in dollars, and probably some helpful data like the Price/Earnings ratio and the dividend yield.
