How useful is a dual degree in marketing and psychology?

I am a psychology major right now and am trying to find a more practical application, so adding a marketing degree seems like a good option. When applying for a job (a more marketing-focused job) would having a degree in psychology help set me apart from other applicants who just have marketing degrees? Would a psychology minor be just as useful as the major? I don't want to waste my time getting the dual degree if it will not make me any more attractive to employers or open up any other job opportunities for me. Any advice?

1. Psychology and Marketing can be a good mix if you mention it on your resume.
Some people might not see a mixture of them in good ways - they may just look at it as a random decision.

If you were to put a reason for why you decided to get a degree in both of them you should put something like:

Psychology and Marketing would be a good mix because that is what Marketing is all about, having the brain react to a product in a positive manner. Which is essentially Psychology.

DON'T USE THAT! lol, that was really bad - but it could be something like that I would say.
I never really thought of this mix (I'm a Marketing major) but it sounds really nice now that I think of it.

Good luck!

2. Hi there,

Your decision to proceed with a degree in Marketing is a very good idea. It will help you add more capabilities and more skills in you as a general. On the other hand, you have to know that marketing has to do with a lot of issues that do not interfere with people. For example deciding for new products, product improvements, Innovative products and so on. You will also need to deal with Pricing issues, like pricing analysis (competitors prices, Product pricing in relation to costs and other expenses of the company). The next area that you will be dealing with will be the area of product distribution, choosing also effective and efficient distribution channels. Promotion issues is another area to deal with. You will have to choose among the different tools in the Promotion Mix i.e. Advertising, Sales Promotions, Publicity and Personal Selling. The fifth and final issue that you will have to deal with is Direct Marketing i.e to communicate you company messages to your customers through the internet.

I gave you above a brief description of the different areas that you will be dealing with. Now, It is your decision to see yourself qualifications and if you can fit there.

Something you have to know about marketing is that by having a degree on the same, you have a lot of options and plenty of business fields to work with.

I hope I helped you.
