How come there is nothing to stop brokers from posting fake apartments on Craigslist to do the bait-and-switch?
I'm looking for an apartment in NYC and brokers post apartments that seem almost too good to be true. Then when you call up, they say it's not available and try to sell you on another apartment.

1. What part of "too good to be true" escapes you? Maybe if you didn't use CL you wouldn't have these problems.
2. Because Craigslist is the Nigeria of the internet and anyone dealing there without exercising "buyer beware" is dead meat anyway.
3. That is the mildest of scams you will find on craigslist. There are much worse scams then that.
You need to be very careful and IGNORE anything that is "too good to be true" because you already know it is a scam.

5. That's come up for discussion in the news and on forums for the last 10 years. The only thing that's changed is that CL posts warnings and tips on how not to get scammed.
Avoid CL when searching for an apartment.
