1. If we knew the answer to your question, we would all buy them and become wealthy.
Stocks are very similar to playing dice in a casino. You do the research and try to put all the odds in your favor, and then roll the dice and come up broke.
2. If you want to make money, I think you're asking the wrong question. The way to make money is "buy low, sell high" which means you do not want to be buying "hot" stocks because they are by definition not low. Sure, you might be able to buy before they peak and have them go up more after you buy, but many people don't sell when the peak is hit and hold too long thinking that the stock will keep going up after a brief decline and then by the time they realize that the decline is not going to be brief, the stock has often dropped below the price where they bought it and they end up with a loss.
I think the way to make money is to find "cold" stocks that are good profitable companies that happen to be out of favor at the moment and therefore have prices that are lower than they should be. Then when that company and/or industry becomes a popular investment again, you can make a substantial profit by selling when the stock becomes hot and rises significantly above the value of the company.
For example, I think someone is going to make a lot of money off home builder stocks by buying them now or in the near future while they are out of favor and then having them go up significantly whenever the housing market starts improving.
3. it depends on what how long you want to invest. If you are looking for stocks to hold for a few years, then try Apple, Google and JPM. However, if you are looking to swing trade meaning short term trading and profit from price fluctuation, then try HSOL and other solar stocks.
